Elena lives with her aunts in Bobbio because her mother is an actress and is forced to continually move. But the child is not alone. Her uncle Pier Giorgio adores her and her mother has not abandoned her: as soon as possible she returns to spend some time with her. One day, however, Sara arrives and has got some news. She wants to take Elena along to Milan. The time has come for the child to leave her country, her birthplace and her aunts, perhaps forever…

“On the basis of the experience gained by the director in the school Fare cinema in Bobbio, in seminars involving actors, actresses, talented young directors. (…) But Sorelle Mai, (…) is not a “documentary”: is a quest, an imaginary trip of past and present, in the well-set up for lunch parlor, it appears the “fantôme” of Lou Castel, the “sick” young who performed in Fists in the Pocket. Along with all other Bellocchio’s phantasmagoria stories, the melodrama, Verdi, the theater, the melancholy sweetness of a man in a tails that is dissolved in the waters of the river”. (Cristina Piccino, Il Manifesto)
