On the occasion of the 50th anniversary of 1968, the festival paid tribute to the historical events of that year through the screening of five films chosen by Luciana Castellina and Carlo Verdone. “Celebrating anniversaries is not rhetorical, but useful: it helps reflect on the past, and – if memories are not distorted – free the memory of those who directly experienced a particular event from its mythical dimension, and it also helps those who were born later understand such events” – underline the curators of the tribute. “The celebration is even more interesting when it does not concern an event that came to an end within a single day, but a much longer phenomenon that, like it or not, affected a whole generation all over the world. 1968 – which in Italian is generally written in words, “sessantotto” (Sixty-Eight), to remark how it was a whole historical period and not just a year – is one of these events. And it started 50 years ago”.
