ILDIKÓ ENYEDI Protagonist of European Cinema
The Hungarian director and screenwriter in Lecce to introduce the tribute to her films

Nominated to the imminent Academy Awards for Best Foreign Language Film for “On Body and Soul”, winner of the Golden Bear at the Berlinale 2017, Ildikó Enyedi will attend the upcoming edition of the European Film Festival, directed by Alberto La Monica, which will be held in Lecce from 9 to 14 April.

The Salentine festival will dedicate to the Hungarian filmmaker and screenwriter the “Protagonists of European Cinema” section, awarding her the Golden Olive Tree Award for Career Achievement following a Q&A with the audience moderated by Massimo Causo, and will present a complete tribute to her films including the restored version of “My 20th Century”, whose world premiere took place at the past edition of the Berlinale.

And it was right with “My 20th Century”, her debut film, that the director won the Caméra d’or at the Cannes Film Festival, and the film is regarded as one of the best Hungarian movies of all time. She has taken part in many festivals, including in competition at Venice in 1994 with “Magic Hunter” and Locarno in 1999 with “Simon mágus”, which earned her the Golden Olive Tree Award right at the first edition of the European Film Festival in 2000. Ildikó Enyedi is currently filming “The Story of My Wife: Léa Seydoux“, her first English language film, starring French actress Léa Seydoux and the Norwegian Anders Baasmo Christiansen.

Produced by Apulia Film Commission Foundation and funded by Puglia Region and Patto per la Puglia programme (FSC, Fund for Regional Development and Cohesion), the European Film Festival is conceived and organized by the Cultural Association “Art Promotion” with the support of the Municipality of Lecce and the Ministry of Cultural Heritage and Activities and Tourism – Directorate General for Cinema.
