Evelina is a sweet-tempered 40-year-old woman, who has separated from her husband Vittorio and supports her two sons Giulio and Carlo by working as a fairy tale writer for a small publisher. Evelina is very protective towards the two boys, but fails to exercise her authority over them, as they take money from her purse, sneak cigarettes and bring lots of friends home. And when the woman starts a relationship with Marcello, a biologist living nearby, her children react coldly and sulkily. But one night, on their way home, the boys are involved in an accident in which a friend of theirs dies, and Evelina will once again support and protect her children, who are her whole life.

“God bless Stefania, an Italian mother. Not a mother like those portrayed in some mawkish song: cuddly, but not castrating, a housewife but also an intellectual, fragile, happily absent-minded and, not least, very good-looking and still open to the possibility of romance. (…) Debuting as a director after a long career as a dubber, Livia Giampalmo chooses the way of freshness and simplicity. Sandrelli and the other actors fit in with brightness and empathy.”
