synopsis

This is the story of a dysfunctional family, with selfish and manipulative parents, a two-headed monster that devours any hope of freedom for their children.

Desirè is the only one who can save her brother Claudio and will continue to fight against everything and everyone in the name of the only love she knows, to chase a bit happiness.

director’s statement

“Felicità is my debut work. The story revolves around a dysfunctional family, a psychiatric journey, an unbalanced relationship, educational and social mediocrity, and how the spirit of Italy during these years reflects on those less provided for.

I wrote the screenplay along with two other women, Isabella Cecchi and Alessandra Guidi. The actors we had in mind while writing – Sergio Rubini, Max Tortora, Anna Galiena and Matteo Olivetti – reacted enthusiastically and this gave me the courage to propose the film to Lotus Production. They agreed on the condition that I play one of the characters, Desiré. I had the privilege of being supported by extraordinary collaborators: Luca Bigazzi for cinematography, Jacopo Quadri for editing, Catia Dottori for costumes, Carlo Virzì for music and Paolo Sansoni for set design. However, it took some nerve on my part to play Desiré, because she is certainly not an uplifting portrait of a virtuous woman. On the contrary, she is definitely flawed, naive, somewhat deceitful and perhaps even pathetic.”
