In collaboration with the European Film Academy, the Festival presents short films nominated for the European Best Short Film Award. EFA Shorts is the only Italian stop on the European Film Academy's international short film tour.

The films are nominated and selected by the European Film Academy Short Film Network, a pan-European network currently comprising 30 festivals featuring an international short film competition, alongside renowned international short film festivals from 24 European countries.

Each festival selects a candidate for the European Film Awards; from these, 5 films are selected and officially presented to the more than 5,700 members of the European Film Academy, who vote for the winner.
