synopsis

“Mamma Roma” is a prostitute in Rome who is determined to change her life. An opportunity arises when her pimp, Carmine, gets married, effectively releasing her from his control. She has a son, Ettore, who is unaware of his mother’s profession and has grownup in the provincial town of Guidonia. She seems willing to go to any lengths for him out of boundless maternal love.
